Sustaining Diversity: Vision and Coordination
CityLife’s heart is the Park, a substantial “green lung” and Milan’s largest pedestrian zone: all traffic is relegated to underground levels, where ample parking facilities are available. Beyond the residential options – prestigious, high quality, architecturally distinguished apartments – CityLife has its own cohesive network of services for consumers and business: offices, retail, cafés and restaurants, integral to ensuring a comfortable life for all. A significant new project will soon enhance the CityLife neighbourhood: construction of a new building, The Wave, designed by BIG – Bjarke Ingels Group, as ever guided by the key concepts of quality of life and sustainability.
Deerns Solutions
Developing the district and managing its various functions posed a significant challenge for Deerns. The project has spanned 30 years and is still a work in progress. Deerns has managed and overseen CityLife’s many and diverse phases, providing: MEP engineering systems design consulting for Hadid’s and Libeskind’s residences, the district’s kindergarten dubbed ‘BabyLife’, Hadid Tower and a retail area. Deerns also provided acoustic consulting, design for the two residences and BabyLife and LEED consulting for Hadid Tower and BabyLife. These services are in addition to energy strategy consulting and environmental impact assessment. Currently, Deerns is working on Palazzo delle Scintille.
Scope of Deerns
MEP Engineering Systems
Deerns designs mechanical and electrical installations for buildings that are healthy, sustainable and safe.
Building Physics & Acoustics
As building physics consultants we put people and their well-being at the centre of design.
Sustainability & Energy Transition
Sustainable buildings offer improved well-being for occupants, the nearby community, and society.
