Almost Energy Neutral project

The Slingeland Hospital project will see the building of a general regional hospital on the outskirts of Doetinchem, with excellent public transport access and parking, including a garage. It will house all standard departments, along with kidney dialysis, CSA, and laboratories. Key features include sustainability in materials and energy systems, a compact and accessible design, and a safe, welcoming environment. The design follows the traditional process up to the Definitive Design phase, involving intensive collaboration with hospital end users.

Deerns Solutions

Deerns’ experienced consultants ensured that technology supports the hospital’s medical workflows. Deerns served as the installation consultant for all building and grounds systems, advising on building physics and fire safety. The hospital’s energy generation will focus on sustainable methods like thermal storage and heat pumps, with no connection to the public gas network. To ensure safety and reliability, 100% emergency power is included. Installation choices prioritise safety, reliability, and financial feasibility.

Deerns also advised investing in technology to create a smart hospital in the future. For legionella control, local hot water generation is recommended, avoiding energy-heavy central systems. The design includes a future-ready ICT infrastructure, with technical rooms on the top floor for easy expansion. The plan aims to meet sustainability standards and minimise energy demand per square metre.
