Louise Scholl is a junior mechanical engineer who contributes to projects for giants of the semiconductor industry, and made an impression as an intern improving a WELL certification app.
From internship to working student to full-time employee
Louise Scholl is a junior mechanical engineer in the Electronics Sector at Deerns where is working on projects with high profile clients in the semiconductor industry. She moved quickly from an internship in 2021 to playing to a critical team member on project teams advising our clients in 2023. These clients are giants in the global industry, which make our modern chip-driven world possible. She is very much part of an industry which is the heart of every device in our daily lives – whether work or play.
Louise also plays a critical business role by visualising and standardising documentation. Her love for learning is clear through her ongoing training to take her technical knowledge to the next level. “At Deerns, setting your own course is encouraged. You are your own captain..” she says.
Professional growth: you are your own captain
Louise stood out for Deerns as a good candidate because of her profile in healthcare engineering. Louise, in turn, was attracted by the many opportunities offered by the company. This resulted in a promising internship and, eventually, a permanent position.
Louise began her journey with Deerns during her research internship on a first for the company – a new WELL certification app to improve Deerns’ QuickScan processes. “I was still a third-year student at the time, so it was very exciting at first,” she says. Soon Louise felt at home: “I got to conduct interviews and tests within the company in addition to designing the app.” Through the projects which Deerns does, Louise is contributing to making sure that people are comfortable when working in offices and recovering from illness in hospitals.
The transition from intern to working student at Deerns was a logical step. “During my internship, I was working part-time in the hospitality industry, but I was looking for work that better matched my education. My internship supervisor suggested joining Deerns for one to one-and-a-half days a week.” In this new capacity, she was contributed to an ambitious project: merging several of Deerns’ smaller apps into one integrated platform.
After her studies, Deerns felt like the right choice for Louise. “When I left Deerns to graduate, I received a letter of intent. Deerns was keen to see me back within the company. That felt like a warm invitation.”
