Future-Proofing NXP’s Semiconductor Facility

NXP Semiconductors in Nijmegen develops and produces microcontrollers, RF components and automotive chips, emphasising connectivity, security, and energy efficiency.

The site in Nijmegen was developed in the 1950’s by Philips to develop their semiconductor division. The largest fab for producing 8-inch wafers was constructed in the late 1980’s and comprises a cleanroom with a total floor area of approximately 12,000 m2. As the site is in constant development, NXP’s challenge is to adapt, upgrade and improve the cleanroom, its HVAC and other supporting systems.

Deerns is involved in multiple projects including cleanroom modifications, new UPW systems, wastewater treatments, bulk gas extensions, and high-purity chemical supplies. Deerns handles the design, construction, relocations and de-installations. Deerns is also supporting with:

  • Redesign of the hydrogen plant
  • Environmental permitting consultancy
  • Hook-up of tools during running production
  • Energy modelling and cost reduction services

Deerns plays a very proactive role, supporting NXP in several fields of expertise as a trusted advisor in making the NXP site fit for the future. Deerns currently provides consultancy services to the facilities management, operations and environment, and safety and health (ESH) departments of NXP in the fields of HVAC, security, process gasses, environmental permitting and maintenance.
