As leader of the Smart Building team, Naomi Duivesteijn sees first hand how building automation improves patient response times in hospitals.
User-centric
Naomi Duivesteijn and her team of Smart Building team experts use building automation to gain energy savings and CO2 reduction for building owners and operators. Smart building consultancy also improves the user experience of people, which is critical in certain sectors such as Health Care. Hospitals are good examples where this can have a life-changing impact on people.
To understand needs and potential bottlenecks Naomi and her team have run workshops with various groups of building users from patients to doctors and technical staff. “By putting ourselves in the users’ shoes, we can design high impact solutions,’ says Naomi.
A steep learning curve
Naomi has learned the important art of persuasion in the process. She ensures that building automation designs are technologically advanced as well as being economically viable. ‘It is important to understand and respond to people’s needs and perspectives. In some instance this comes down to meeting financial criteria, such as return on investment,’ she explains.
An example is the App which Naomi’s team develops for health care teams enabling them to quickly and efficiently locate and respond to patients. Health Care staff can quickly respond to patients in distress. ‘That’s what I love most about my job: helping people and improving their daily experiences.’
