New Slingeland Hospital: Construction Milestone reached

The Hague, 22 September 2025 – The new construction of the Slingeland Hospital in the Netherlands reaches a significant milestone, celebrated with entire project team including Deerns, the appointed design partner.

Commissioned by Slingeland Hospital, Deerns is designing a sustainable, fossil-fuel free healthcare campus with a new hospital, healthcare boulevard, rehabilitation centre and parking facilities. Despite the challenges of grid congestion in the region, Deerns is making smart use of schemes such as Multiple Suppliers on One Connection (MLOEA) and applying the latest energy technologies.

“Thanks to our experience in predicting the energy consumption of hospitals, we can create space on a congested energy grid,” said Jan Feijes, Senior Advisor at Deerns.

In addition to the design of the building installations, Deerns is responsible for the building physics and acoustics, fire safety, lighting design and the integration of the user installations. The design is in line with the hospital’s high sustainability ambitions, with a fully electric energy supply, thermal energy storage and a large-scale PV installation.

Together with the architectural consortium Wiegerinck and Vakwerk, landscape architect Studio Nico Wissing and contractor Dura Vermeer, Deerns is contributing to a healing environment with a positive impact on patients, staff and visitors. The result: a functional, sustainable and financially feasible healthcare campus thanks to the right mix of knowledge and experience.

On track for completion of the healthcare campus

Completion of the new healthcare campus is scheduled for early 2027. Here, Deerns’ integrated approach is making a significant contribution to sustainability ambitions, potentially lower operating costs and an attractive environment for patients, visitors and staff.
