Deerns recognised as a top international design firm

Deerns continues to rise up the rankings in ENR’s annual list of the Top 225 International Design Firms.

The Hague, 26 August 2025. Continuing to climb the rankings in the prestigious list shows the great progress Deerns is making towards growth targets and that the company has adapted well to the changing demands on the Architectural, Engineering and Construction industry. The ENR report indicates that trends in sustainability, ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) integration and artificial intelligence (AI) require firms to design and deliver resilient and adaptive infrastructure.

Tjerk van der Meer, CEO of Deerns said: “We are delighted to keep steady progress climbing the ENR rankings. The technological developments over the last year have made this a hugely dynamic period of our industry and it’s great that the report confirms we are continuously embracing opportunities specifically in the fast-growing data centre, electronics and life sciences sectors. Political and economic fluctuations can be a challenge but Deerns has a strong tradition of innovation allowing us to evolve and adapt to meet the needs of our clients.”

Whilst economic uncertainty has led to delays in decision making and volatility within the market, Deerns has taken this as an opportunity to focus on strategic engagement with key clients and on further differentiating its services from the competition. The company has also worked hard to develop cross-sector projects which draw on the global expertise available within the company.

Tjerk continues: “One of the key findings of the report was the impact that AI is having on design services. We have not only been quick to recognise how we can harness AI to support our work but how this technology will drive demand and increase the complexity of digital infrastructure. We are fully focused on helping our clients navigate that complexity and jointly shape the future of sustainable critical digital infrastructure.”

Whilst the ENR report records that international design revenue is significantly down in Latin America, Deerns has bucked that trend, enjoying a 30% growth in revenue in Brazil over the last year. The company has also enjoyed strong growth in its more mature markets such as Italy where it has seen project scope continue to grow because of consolidated client relationships and strong project management skills.

Climate change is named in the ENR report as a major factor in design decisions. This is borne out by Deerns’ experience with growing client expectations around renewable or low/no emission energy sources and whole life carbon. To address this, Deerns has sought to develop a total cost of ownership tool which allows them to lead clients through a more holistic and data-driven approach to efficiency improvement and impact reduction. Through scenario modelling of cooling capacity, energy usage and emissions impact.

As well as helping improve sustainable solutions for data centres, Deerns is working with clients in the airport, real estate and health care sectors to deliver climate resilient, smart, future-proof facilities that meet both regulations and corporate targets.

Deerns’ long-term planning is reflected not only in business ambition but also on the ground in project work. Deerns is challenging design for technology that doesn’t yet exist! Advance modelling, leading industry expertise and a flexible approach to planning and design are all ensuring that Deerns is well positioned to meet client needs, both now and well into the future.
