Deerns named as a leading international design firm

Multinational consultancy and engineering firm Deerns is celebrating after consistent ranking in the Top 225 International Design Firm by Engineering News-Record (ENR) for the third year running.

The Hague, 5 September, 2024 ENR’s annual report ranks international design firms according to revenue for design services performed in 2023, carried out by each firm in countries other than their home country.

This year’s edition reports that inflation, climate change, and regional conflicts, along with supply chain disruptions, have made project goals increasingly difficult to define and achieve for the Top 225 firms. Evolving customer demands along with challenges such as supply chain disruption, have led firms to focus on flexibility, added value and the integration of the latest technology into design work.

Furthermore, building occupants now expect greater transparency in energy efficiency and safer designs. This is pushing owners to prioritise health, wellbeing, and green building standards to futureproof investments and enhance property value. As a result, owners are relying on design firms to boost asset performance while working within tighter budgets.

Tjerk van der Meer, CEO of Deerns: “Deerns has rapidly adjusted to the opportunities and challenges of the past year, supporting clients across all sectors to achieve their building goals and their sustainability ambitions. Embracing the latest technological developments continues to enhanc the value we offer .We are delighted with our listing in ENR and look forward to building on this position in the coming years.”

“At Deerns, we use challenges to drive innovation that is centred around sustainability, decarbonisation and occupant wellbeing. Our approach is highly collaborative. We work closely with clients and skilled local partners to ensure efficient project implementation in several different regions. This approach enables us to successfully navigate economic uncertainties while consistently providing value to our clients.”

A key finding from the survey of the top 225 firms was the value placed on proximity and human connection to the success of projects. This is particularly the case in areas at highest risk from the impact of climate change. Deerns is well placed to deliver this level of service to clients with a network of businesses located in key markets that allow the design, engineering and consultancy teams to draw both on local knowledge and global experience.

Deerns’ clients require highly specialised solutions in the data centre, micro-electronics, high-end real estate, healthcare, life sciences and airport markets. Our established portfolio of projects across these sectors addresses climate change through emissions control, energy transition, and decarbonisation solutions. This, together with our multi-disciplinary expertise in smart, integrated building and infrastructure systems, has positioned Deerns as a global leader in operational efficiency, sustainability, and futureproofing.

The report also cites the impact that AI is expected to have on the design and construction sector. Deerns has already made significant inroads into integrating AI and machine learning into its suite of Computational Parametric Design services. The firm uses technological innovations to support flexible and collaborative working practices both internally and externally.

Van der Meer continues: “Delivering fully integrated services for our clients is a cornerstone of our development and growth. At Deerns, we use challenges to drive innovation that is centred around sustainability, decarbonisation and occupant wellbeing. We are excited about the potential benefits of further enhancing our services with AI and other technological advances.”

Deerns’ recognition in the 2024 Top 225 International Design Firms Ranking highlights our success in addressing complex challenges with reliable solutions and pioneering innovations for emerging issues. Our 600+ experts continue to strengthen the firm’s design and consultancy credentials with a series of high-profile projects.
