Deerns India excited by optimism in electronics sector

Deerns India blends global experience with local networks to serve growing industry.

The Hague, 30 September 2024. The Indian semiconductor industry is poised for impressive growth fuelled by government initiatives, technological advances and increasing demand. Deerns has bold ambitions to support and match this growth in India, using global experience and an established and increasing local presence.

An industry on the rise

Indicative of the growth ambition was that the first SEMICON Event was held in India in September, 2024. Opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it attracted high profile international companies such as NXP, Infineon, Synopsys, and Imec, keen to explore the nation’s potential to become a key player in the global electronics market.

Eric Stuiver, Sector Director Electronics at Deerns, who attended the event said: “The scale and success of the event was positive confirmation of the huge progress already made to position India as a significant growth market for the semiconductor industry.”

The event highlighted India’s ambitions for the semiconductor sector:

  • Grow the electronics sector to $500 billion and create six million jobs by the end of the decade
  • Allocate $10 billion to strengthen the semiconductor ecosystem
  • Approval for India’s first 300mm semiconductor fabrication plant

Eric continues: “I’ve been in the industry since the early 1980s and have seen the geographical focus of the sector shift throughout that time. It is undoubtedly India’s moment and the confidence and determination to grasp it is palpable.”

Global experience, local knowledge

Having worked in partnership with Spectrum PharmTECH, a leading pharmaceuticals and biotech engineering consultancy in India since 2023, Deerns acquired a majority share in Spectrum’s sister company Proworks and opened a Deerns branded local office in Thane, Mumbai in June 2024 – confirming a lasting commitment to the region and strategic partner Spectrum.

As joint venture partners, Deerns and Spectrum are now working on accelerating the expansion of its business in the data centre, health care, life sciences and electronics sectors.

The team has already undertaken work with the solar PV manufacturing arm of Adani Group, providing detailed designs to upgrade their cleanroom – essential for the successful production of this highly sensitive product.

Ravindra Burse, Operations Director at Deerns India, who also attended SEMICON said: “The electronics sector in India is at a very early developmental stage. We are determined to help nurture this into a sustainable, long-term industry.

“Deerns has enjoyed great success in other regions by leveraging their global network of experts and impressive experience whilst enabling the upskilling, training and development of local staff.”

Deerns Brazil is enjoying impressive growth as data centre activity in the region continues to gather momentum. It has recently been named as one of the 60 biggest engineering companies in Brazil, being recognised by its clients as one of the best at delivering mission critical solutions.

Ravindra continues: “I’m looking forward to working with Eric and the rest of the Deerns electronics team to translate this approach for the Indian electronics market.”

Eric concludes: “The key to long term success for the Indian semiconductor market lies in developing local talent and laying the foundations that will deliver sustainable growth. We are very excited about what the future holds for Deerns India and are looking forward to being part of this next chapter in India’s story.”
