“Building Spain’s Semiconductor Momentum”

For Project Manager Ainara Gorriti Romero, every project is an opportunity to bring clarity and coherence to highly technical environments such as Electronics.

Since her first assignment with Deerns on a corporate office project, Ainara has broadened her portfolio across Data Centres, Life Sciences and Electronics. As the main reference for the Spanish team on Electronics-related opportunities, her differentiating strength lies in end-to-end project management for complex, multidisciplinary projects.

“I focus on the strategic and organisational aspects that ensure technical excellence can be delivered effectively,” Ainara says. “This allows Deerns’ experts to operate efficiently and clients to receive clear, structured guidance throughout the full lifecycle of the project.”

Leading Deerns’ Electronics Expertise in Spain

Spain’s semiconductor sector is gaining momentum, attracting growing interest from international investors, national players, government through the Sociedad Española para la Transformación Tecnológica (SETT) and EU funds related to the PERTE Chip programme. In this evolving landscape, Ainara’s expertise plays a key role in bringing Deerns’ global Electronics capabilities into the Spanish market.

Her strengths lie in developing robust planning, licensing and permitting strategies that navigate Spain’s regulatory pathways while offering early insight into feasibility, constraints and timelines for complex industrial developments. She excels in managing multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring alignment between client requirements and technical solutions from all disciplines.

Ainara also brings a rigorous approach to risk identification and mitigation, with a strong emphasis on environmental considerations, permitting, scheduling and site-related challenges – factors that are critical in semiconductor and cleanroom projects.

Beyond the technical aspects, she guides clients through due diligence, feasibility studies, site selection and the development of high-spec facilities. Her ability to coordinate diverse stakeholders ensures that expectations remain aligned and that project objectives, timelines, and decision-making processes stay on track.

Supporting an Emerging Market

The Electronics sector is an emerging market in Spain, and Ainara has taken a leading role in mapping the ecosystem and positioning Deerns within it. She is responsible for identifying opportunities in the country, building relationships with key local stakeholders, and creating a bridge between the needs of the Spanish market and Deerns’ international expertise.

“The Spanish microelectronics sector is still at an early stage,” Ainara observes. “My vision is that Deerns can play a key role in accelerating this development by bringing proven experience from mature semiconductor markets and adapting these successful approaches to the Spanish context.”

“We also support new players in scaling from innovation to production. We do this through proactive communication and problem-solving, helping them navigate uncertainties typical of early-stage projects in a new sector. In this way, Deerns contributes to the ecosystem by transferring global knowledge and ensuring alignment with international standards.”

Deerns’ Electronics Footprint in Spain

To date, two major projects have laid the foundation for Deerns’ Electronics activity in the country.

  • New semiconductor fabrication plant (Fab): Site technical due diligence
  • Pilot Line: Evaluating an existing microelectronics R&D facility and defining a strategy for the extension of its pilot line to increase capacity and upgrade process capabilities.

Ainara has led these projects from the Spanish side, driving their technical scope and client engagement. In both, her role combines project management with technical coordination, ensuring that client needs are accurately translated into engineering requirements and delivered through a coherent, multidisciplinary approach.

For the Site Technical Due Diligence project, she also contributed her expertise in permitting, planning constraints and regulatory pathways, identifying potential showstoppers at an early stage and aligning the development strategy with Spanish legal and environmental frameworks.

Positioning Spain for Semiconductor Success

With its extensive European experience in cleanroom and microelectronics projects, Deerns is well placed to support Spain’s semiconductor ambitions. Central to this effort, Ainara ensures that the firm’s proven methodologies, structured approach and risk management expertise are applied effectively, while connecting local clients with Deerns’ global specialists to deliver lasting impact in the Spanish market.
