Bulgaria - Sofia Airport

In 1997 the Bulgarian ministry of transport gave commission to an expansion and modernization of Sofia International Airport due to a fundamental lack of capacity. A new runway and terminal had to be realized in order to meet the continuously growing number of annual passengers.

As part of the terminal building design team, Deerns was responsible for the design of, and the tender evaluation and the site super vision for, building services and airport systems. These include the baggage handling system with in-line security checks, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) services, passenger boarding bridges and apron services and the integrated ICT-systems of the new terminal building with a pier and underground parking.
