Deerns recognised as Leader in Sustainability for Buildings

At Greenbuild Europe 2018 in Berlin, Mahesh Ramanujam, CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council, and Nicolle Killman, Director of GBCI Europe, recognised Deerns with the international Award of Top LEED Service Provider. This Award acknowledges Deerns’ consultants for their “leadership in Sustainability and for sharing in the vision of Green Buildings.”

With offices in Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Spain and the Middle East, Deerns is a frontrunner when it comes to designing sustainable, healthy, comfortable and smart buildings, with professionals specialised in LEED, BREEAM, HQE, WELL, WiredScore and other sustainable initiatives. Regarding LEED specifically, Deerns has 14 LEED professionals worldwide, having worked on 55 LEED certified projects and an additional 37 that are in the process of certification. Amongst Deerns’ key references are:

  • Bosco Verticale, Italy: LEED Certified, Best Tall Building 2015 Worldwide
  • Centro Servizi Credito Valtellinese, Italy: LEED Certified, USGBC Best of Building 2014 - Regional Project: Europe
  • Siemens Headquarter, the Netherlands: the Netherlands’ first renovated building with LEED Platinum certification
  • Lelystad Airport, the Netherlands: the Netherlands’ first LEED certified airport terminal building
  • HEKLA Tower, France: LEED C&S Platinum certified, with construction completion planned for 2021.

Following from this Award, Jan Karel Mak, CEO of Deerns Group, commented:

“It is with pride and pleasure that we accept this GBCI Award. To us, this is an important recognition of the energy and dedication that our engineers and consultants invest every day in delivering future-ready, carbon-neutral designs which enable a vital transition into a healthy, resource efficient and resilient society. However, it is also with a degree of modesty that we accept this Award. Yes, I am grateful for the positive impact our teams aim to make in designing ever more sustainable buildings, and we also consciously transform our own daily behaviour at Deerns, but we know how much needs to be done to reach the Paris agreement goals. We see it as our responsibility to keep working towards meeting these goals. Therefore, we will use this Award as an encouragement to our clients and prospective clients to take a long-term approach that both benefits the globe and their own business, and as a stimulus for all our engineering teams to even intensify their efforts to innovate and be savvy in designing energy-neutral and material-friendly design solutions. We thank GBCI for this inspiring acknowledgement, and wish the institution success in its work to help set ever higher Green Business standards across Europe.”

The Greenbuild Europe event offered a forum for the green building community to connect and address pressing issues such as air quality, human health, energy use and global climate change. At the conference, Deerns shared its experience regarding real Zero-Energy Buildings, showcasing some of its latest outstanding zero-energy projects in various European countries.  19 April 2018
