A major point of attention in the design of a lift installation is determining the required capacity and occupancy rate. Namely with lifts, these aspects determine the average and maximum user waiting and travelling times. Therefore, a preliminary study in the form of capacity calculation based on the demands to be set on the lift installations must be carried out. Deerns uses simulation programs, which we have developed ourselves, to do capacity calculations for lift configurations, in which the present situation can be modelled, calculated forward, and subsequently analysed. By varying input data, the existing situation can be optimized or a new configuration designed. By setting these against generally applied norms, a well founded statement can subsequently be made about the number and type of lifts to be installed.

An input in the building layout can contribute to improved logistic flows and linked to this a reduction in the use of transport means (lifts).
