Client Space Research Organization Netherlands, Utrecht
Built-up area 1500 m2 gross floor area
Start design August 2004
Start construction April 2005
Completion project December 2005

Project description

The SRON, Space Research Organization Netherlands, cleanroom established in 1990, consists of an area of circa 1000 m2 and is divided into a number of separate rooms with classifications varying from class 10 (ISO 4) to class 10.000 (ISO 7). Scientific instruments are manufactured, assembled, integrated and tested in the cleanroom, and are subsequently applied for space research. Furthermore, radiation sensors are manufactured in the cleanroom using thin film lithographic techniques and micro-machining.

The objective of the upgrade is to guarantee the operational reliability of the cleanroom, and thus the development and production of high-grade instruments and sensors for a long term.

Special details

Prior to the design phase, in close consultation with SRON, Deerns analysed the situation to come to a proper definition of the measures required for the upgrade. In this respect, proposals were made for the improvement of cleanroom logistics as well as proposals for installations. Safeguarding operation during the upgrade was essential.

Involvement Deerns

Project definition, design, cost estimates, implementation and supervision of mechanical, electro technical and control installations for the cleanroom.
