Special details
The Martini Hospital being built for durability and maintenance-friendliness as a modern and flexible hospital in which patients and staff are considered to be central.
The new building is modular and elongated (two "snakes") and can in general terms be subdivided into eight building elements that are connected to each other at junctions. Each of these eight building elements has its own technical area on the roof from where the building concerned is fed. On the two broad elements, the central plants are located such as steam boilers, cooling plants, compressed air and vacuum installations, etc. These are connected to the other roof stations via a duct tunnel, the "backbone", on the roof.
Martini Hospital has been nominated demonstration project for Industrial, Flexible and Demountable construction. Various energy-saving measures are also applied. The design aims at an optimal "Total Costs of Ownership".
In all phases of construction explicit attention is being paid to the environmental consequences of construction methods and products.
