KPN Getronics uses green cooling in Data Center

28-02-2011

KPN's Getronics wants to lower energy use at its data center in Haarlem (the Netherlands) by building a green cooling system. The system will be environmentally friendly and energy-saving by using heat wheels.

The wheels will use the ambient temperature to save energy, reducing the annual energy consumption of the data center by an estimated 40 percent. The new cooling system will be in use in the first quarter of next year. The data center is part of Getronics' green strategy for all its data centers. Getronics aims to improve energy efficiency by 30 percent by 2020, as compared to 2005.

KPN's Getronics has relied on Deerns to provide the necessary engineering consultancy on this innovative cooling technology. The reliability of this innovative technology was optimized by Deerns through the application of proven technology, detailed statistical availability analyses and tests.
